I've Been Poked

Do you ever just seem to find yourselves in a pickle? A real predicament? This is how I felt this afternoon when I went for my first acupuncture treatment with a wonderful, old Chinese man. He had me strip down to my Gap boxer briefs (good thing I didn't go my usual commando today, isn't it?) and lay on this old bed that reminded me of Grandma's house. There I was, laying on the bed, the door to the room wide open, and another guy getting poked in the next room. He came and went, put a needle in, took another out. The door wide open. And his wife came in with the moxa....lit on fire and heated up to an extremely hot temperature. She would hold the hot moxa against the needles to warm them. He popped a whopper of a needle in my hip -- and yanked it out just as quickly when I yelped. He left the room muttering, "Baby." And I was. Hubby sat across the room, laughing, tee-hee'ing and having a lovely time with his picture phone. I'm going back in the morning....in spite of the fact that it smells like we've both been smoking pot. The moxa does that.

You know I made an appointment to do this, but I ended up chickening out and not going. So did it help? Would you recommend it after your experience?

Good for you, I hope it helps tremendously. Sounds like you are seeing a 5-element purist. They can do some really wonderful things for some people. (Others need a more varied approach, and there are some wonderful "traditional" practitioners in the area too.)

Take your herbs! :)

Maybe you should have smoked a bit of pot, then the 'hip needle' would not have made you yelp...

Went for a treatment a few years ago and it helped my lower back pain no end.

Good luck with the treatments!

Very wise man! I know that a lot of insurances don't sponsor accupuncture. But it does work! Have fun with it!

I am glad that you are doing whatever you need to do in order to feel better. I have not had acupuncture myself, but I have friends who swear by it. Hopefully it will be successful for you. Good luck!

I have heard that accupuncture requires multiple visits to be truly effective. Don't quit too soon. Let it work.

It's a great reason to get naked, too. ;)

Good for you, Lewis, for trying alternative healing therapies. I think we can heal ourselves, or at least make our lives more liveable, through a combination of eastern and western medicines.

I have 4 deteriorating disks in my neck, so have a good understanding of your back ailments. Isn't middle age a joy? No, really.

I hope it works out for you, my friend! And, there's nothing wrong with a little pot either! LOL

I've been receiving classical 5 element for seven years and it has changed my life. When you get that electric shock feeling it means the practitioner has hit the point dead on. Bull's eye! Those are the ones that really work for me.

He called you a baby? That old prick ;) hehe

I'd love to try acupuncture. Needles don't bother me too much, so I think it would be a good experiment.

I hope it helps you
