After the Eastermath

What a weekend with our beautiful niece. In a feeble attempt to not go into all of it (because you'd be here all day long), I'll just do a quick run through -- so, start your engines! Dinner at Cha Cha Cha (Mexican food, one of our very favorites); breakfast at Milo's on Broadway; facial/makeup session at the Bobbi Brown Counter at Nordstrom; shopping spree at Wet Seal at Lloyd Center; egg dying and dinner at our good friend's home; the most amazing Easter church service (yes, gay people do go to church) you've ever encountered complete with original music compositions written for the organ and trumpet; Easter dinner at our house complete with homemade quiche (yes, real men do eat it), citrus asparagus and beans, and strawberry-almond cream cake; time around the piano singing and being silly; ride on Max to downtown (remember, Portland has one of the best transportation systems in the country); time at Powell's, the largest bookstore on the West coast; lunch at Hotlips Pizza; obligatory stop at Abercrombie & Fitch (for her, not me); and dinner at our favorite Thai place. And so, this morning I'll put her on an airplane back home. She's a doll. A real trooper in this nutty world of ups and downs.

My back is better but I'm not sure if it's from the cortisone shot or not. Simply, I think that time has allowed it to heal some. It's been a struggle or seven years or so. Plus, when you get old, that's just part of the package deal!

I can't believe that it's already the last week of March. I guess we'll forever be saying "I can't believe how fast time flies....." Do you ever feel like you're wasting time, or letting things pass in front of you that you should be taking advantage of, or wishing that things were different than they are? I mean, for some of us, we're definitely at mid-life. The run is close to half over. Now, that's a pretty thought, isn't it? I have no regrets. But I definitely want to be sure I'm grabbing every opportunity that presents itself. I hope you will too.

It appears that you gave your niece and most delightful weekend and that it in turn also touched you with its gold.

that was a lovely read; thank you for that.

I feel time accelerating.
I think this is Einstein's Theory of Relativity (special, not general) applied to gay men going towards black holes OR going through middle age.

Maybe your back pain was also eclipsed by the fun time you were able to spend with your niece. YOU are getting old? How odd.

I read through the links, and wow. What a good brother and uncle you are Lewis. Those around you are lucky to have your heart, compassion, and support. Keep on keepin' on....

Sounds like a great weekend was had by all. You definitely gave yourselves the "run-around." I'm glad to see there are a few "UCC'ers" out there. Refreshing compared to the rigidness of the Catholic Church. Especially when they're "open and affirming." Enjoy the rest of March. The good thing about April is that the snow is bound to disappear eventually! ;-)

What a beautiful weekend you had with your niece! So much fun packed into so little time!! It was a great weekend! And yes, I went to church too! Imagine that! ;-)
Do hope your back continues to mend! It is a rocky coexistence at time... life and chronic back pain...

You're so awesome!

I love Powell's. I've only been there a couple times. Oh, and A&F is fun, too. ;)

I hope your back stays better.

I frequently feel like I'm wasting time, passing time for the sake of passing time.

What a fun weekend you had. I am sure you are undoubtedly the "Cool uncle."

So true what you say about time fleeting. Great post.

Be MY uncle! Be MY uncle!

Why did I never get an uncle like you? I'd have been so happy with that kind of treatment.

Lovely you. Well done for showing her such a great time. She's very lucky.

Glad you're feeling better L, also suffer from lower back pain on and off. Helps if I do the exercises my Physio gave me, but sometime too damn lazy (read old) to get up a few minutes earlier to get trought them... Time does fly, after all!

Happy for the back. I said the shots take time.
Sounded like a fun busy weekend.

I think I feel that urge but more so because I don't feel like I'm in mid-life, I feel so close to the end of it! I don't think I can let any opportunity pass at this point!! And what a ride!!!

That is one loaded amazing weekend.

Oh boy, I could post such a long comment on the passage of time and how we procrastinate, but lemme just say that I often feel like I wish things were different and that I were in a better more rewarding place in my own personal life.

I'm content, but not truly using my full capacities, but sometimes I stop beating myself and enjoy the moment/present as much as possible, for to waste time lamenting is to waste the precious time I have now.

Glad you had a great weekend...But you are right, time goes by so quickly...I do feel as though I have wasted many opportunities and now I feel as though, my time is closing very quickly...I feel it inside, but anyway...it doesn't matter...You get out of life what you put into it...right?
hugs

Sounds like you treated your niece to a marvelous time, the lucky girl. And time is slipping by way too fast! I can't believe March is almost over. :(
