Sharp Knives Do, Indeed, Cut Well

New March 2008 Audio Greeting Now Available .... Upper Left-Hand Corner!
In spite of a great weekend with Dave from Blogography, I ended up nearly slicing off my thumb last night. I'm on the way to the doctor this morning to get it bandaged properly. You'll remember that I got a brand new, very sharp, knife set for Christmas. Let it suffice to say that it does, indeed, work well. There was one hell of a lot of blood leaving my body last night as I was preparing a yummy, delicious dinner (which hubby had to finish up for me while I suspended my hand up in the air above my heart level). I had grilled whole red and orange peppers on the grills -- charring them just slightly and leaving them with that smoky taste. I was stuffing them with: potato (microwaved first), onion (sauteed in the skillet first), cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, drop of V-8 juice, brown lentils (boil for 30-40 minutes first), dried apricot, chopped almonds, paprika, and cumin. Baked 40 minutes after the stuffing. The salad was going to be: avocado, orange, cherry tomatoes, red onion (that's when the trouble all began with the knife taking off the end of my thumb and the nail too).
Check out a few of my photo sets that have new pictures in them:

Late winter is well under way here. Daffodils and crocus are blooming, forsythia starting, and pink and white flowering cherry trees. I do have to say, Portland is the place to be in the springtime. We'll be adding azalea and rhododendron to the mix in April and May. It's quite a show.

Dinner sounded really yummy until you added in the end of your thumb and nail! I've been there, ask me sometime why I'm no longer allowed to use a cheese grater...

oh my- literally the end of your thumb with nail? ouch
you really should stop showing off your culinary skills until you learn to use your tools properly
get well soon

Ack! About 3 years ago I tried to take out a finger with a box knife. I superglued it back together and it healed up fine, but I didn't get the nail.

Ouch. Hope it's all better soon.

It does seem the past month or so have been rough on several folks and their fingers. Hopefully, the damage you have is minimal ad the healing will go rapidly.

The dinner menu sounds great in spite of the incident; remind me next time I'm heading out your way that you're cooking for me! I wish I was there right now watching the spring come across the landscape. But, alas, I'm on the other side of the country.

Hope you've a nice week,
-C

I hope the wounds are only superficial and that you did not get any tendons, etc. Wishing you a speedy healing!!

Been there, done that. MUCH more careful with knives and sharp implements now.

Hope you're back in one piece soon. (I'm amazed you could still type!)

OUCH! What an abrupt and painful interruption to what sounded like a magnificent meal! I guess I have reason to appreciate my dull knives today? :) Enjoyed your March message!

Well, the food sounded lovely. You poor thing. I only hope you have a handsome doctor....there's nothing like a cute medic to take away the pain....

Those Ginsus will cut just about anything.

As I am a vegetarian, I tend to like my meals without getting the finger...

Hi.

No way you're too gay.

Ooooh!--that's just painful to look at. I hope it doesn't hurt and is beginning to heal well.

You've always struck me as a great looking man--that picture of you in the tank top is so beautiful.

Yikes!

Dinner sounded great, though, before you added the finger to it.

Awe, you poor thing. How awful. I hope you are ok.

That's gotta hurt.
What did the doctor say about the damage? Are there tendons or nerves involved?

Hope it heals quickly. Sorry you sliced yourself (silly man!).

Let me kiss the boo-boo. I hope it heals quickly, Lewis. That sounds nasty, although that dinner sounds wonderful!

OUCH!!! I recall my days of nearly cutting my thumb off with my Exacto blades in Architecture modeling classes. And it was always the thumb nail that saved my thumb from being completely severed. I hope your thumb is feeling better! It's hard to believe what flowers you already have blooming when we're still in the deep Tundra with a lot of snow. Turning green with envy here.

ouuuccchhhh!! I did that once too. Not too fun. Hope you are well.

Ouch! And no fair talking about flowers. Another foot of snow is forecast here tonight, sigh.

Ouch...did you get it kissed to make it all better-- hope so...

I know this makes me a terrible, terrible person, but when I saw that picture, I immediately thought, "When steamed dumplings attack!" which, I assert, would be a really good name for a really bad horror flick.

TNWH, I'd pay to see that movie.

Been following you for a few weeks, Lewis, and really enjoying your stories, even most of this one. I thought the really sharp knives were supposed to be safer than dull ones. Go figure. Hope your thumb heals well and quickly!

The only green around here is me, green with envy at the talk of flowers. We've got a quarter inch of ice on everything—with limbs all over the yard—and a foot of snow due tonight. Bring on the spring!

you do make Portland sound so nice :P I have to get out of here to get some perspective I think. The furthest east I've gone was Phoenix...and that's a sorry excuse for a city IMHO.

I did the same to my thumb, back when I was 19 and worked at a Burger Chef. Took off such a chunk, I had to have a skin graft!

Sh@ney said...

WOW...Don't they say a good cook will always bleed into the meal...:P

Happy to have found you again my friend...And big hugs to you and the man! xoxo
