Set Aside

Oh boy, today I had a yoga instructor that I'd not had before....Heather. She was amazing. One thing that she said, in particular, got me to thinking:

Set aside those things that you used in your life yesterday that are no longer of any use to you. Or the things that you used last year, or even in the last hour. If they are no longer valid, of use, pertinent, and positive, get rid of them.

I had to think seriously about my bad attitudes, the irritations of life, pressures, excuses, work, time, finances, and the things that clearly don't work for me. I could have played the game and said, "Whatever do you mean, Heather?" But, I knew exactly what she meant. I know precisely what needs to be set aside.

perfect! just what i was sharing with a friend in a mtg the other day. "get your goal centered in your sights....now, whatever is negative to you, negative to that goal, or negative to your positivity, dash it away!". it is no longer serving a POSITIVE purpose for you, and you must let it go.

thanks, brother - we're on the same page!

Sounds like good advice.

Here's to everything negative being set aside. Spring is upon us and it's time for new growth. :-)

You know, I need to take this one and let it ruminate inside of me for a while. I know this message is for me (as well as many who read here) but I want to evaluate what it is that I really can let go of. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I love that, something to think about everyday.

Reminds me to get back into Yoga.

How relevant is that to my life at the moment.

Well, the only time I worry when people tell other people that is, folks throw everything out. Including people. Now, sometimes, with some people, it's necessary.

But I've seen enough relationships end where one guy was just bored with the other and then viewed him as old trash.

It's sooo damn hard to set that shit aside, though!

Thanks for the thought, though. :)

Wow - this sure took me back to a post on my own blog in late 2007:

"It struck me today, on this last day of Autumn, that there are a few things in my life that need to die. As we move into Winter, and a season of dead and stillness, I know that I can’t be still. All seasons need to be (and are!) seasons of change for me - for my life, my loves, my art, my journey.
I’m not typcially one who carries a load of bad spirit around with me, but angst is often close by. So right now, I’d like to let go of a couple of negative things whose time has expired; things I don’t have room for any longer in my heart. This season of change, from Autumn to Winter, I will allow and even encourage these things to die.
And just think - I’ll have room for new things to spring up within me. Just like the Crocus that are already coming up in my garden!"

I think it has been too long since I seriously thought about "setting aside"!
