Blue Boy Needs to Leave the Red State

So we've returned from a lovely night of warm dessert at my cousin's home.  All was good until the Miller beer started flowing over the lips of my step father and my cousin's husband.  Oh boy.  I had to move myself across the room way down by my uncle.  And I did my best to keep him out of their conversation and keep him centered on words with me instead.  I succeeded.  But I glanced over at my LoverBoy when I kept on hearing about our "Muslim President" and his horrible wife....THE worst First Lady ever....how dare she demand that our children can't eat certain foods.  If they want to eat it, they should be able to eat it.  Oh dear.

And it continued on and on about the Jews, Israel, Saudi Arabia, debt, deficit and the horrible nation that he's allowed to happen.  My ears were on fire.  Redder than ever.  Absolute hate.  Disgust.  They hate, hate, hate our president.  And not just strong dislike.  I mean hate to the core.  It was some of the worst conversation, phrases and words I've heard in person.  It all sounded so mainstream.  So simple, cheap, easy words.  Common phrases and sentences filled with zero depth, no thought.  No educational background, church-driven, fear based.  All fear based.

I still think it would be much easier if people would simply admit that they are bigots and hate black people.  That would cut right through all of the false rhetoric and straight to what they are actually meaning to say.  Boy Boy Needs to Go Home Now.

I pity you. Did they talk about DOMA?

Such is our FOX News obsessed populace who has no idea that they are merely a tool used by the wealthy so they can become even wealthier. I will never understand it, but have lived through the experience you've described far too many times.

That is indeed what they want to say, but they know that they cannot say such things out loud.

I feel your pain handsome. The same things I have to listen to at my in-laws and it is disgusting. I use to battle (did for many years) but after seeing their views get increasingly more narrow minded over the years I have decided to also sit in the quietest corner.

Oohhhhh, those kinds of "conversations" (if you can call it that) make me so nauseated. I'm so sorry you had to hear it.

How timely. All of the things he was saying are exactly the same crap-of-the-week BS that spewed out of the mouth of fatass Limbaugh and Glenn what's-his-name last week. Thank you Fox.

I would like to think that people like your relative aren't bigoted deep down...but more like just too weak-minded to think on their own and come up with their own ideas about the world. It's so much easier to be a dittohead and follow a loudmouth know-it-all when times appear to be scary and there are no easy answers.

I really want to believe that all people are good inside. I hope so.

I'm sorry Lewis. We can't pick our families but we can learn from them even if its "what not to do".

I don't know how I would handle a situation like that, but I'd like to think it would be with the poise you showed.

Sounds like after an evening like that you owe the BF a nice backrub or maybe another kind of rub ;-)

Glad you are back in the great blue state of Oregon! I think I took that blue state a little for granted until I ended up in Pennsyltucky... red to the core. I wonder why people seethe so much and yet work so hard to sugar coat their hate?
