10:14 PM....Downtown Anchorage, Alaska

The streets are busy with people and the sun is well above the horizon. Ahh, summertime in Alaska! And if you were HERE (scan down to the "Astronomy" section), the sun wouldn't even be setting tonight. Go ahead, take a look at this....

Barrow, Alaska for Today:
Length Of Visible Light: 24h 00m
Length of Day: 24h 00m

That's so bizarre. I don't know if I could deal. Especially with the other end of the spectrum when the sun barely comes up. That must've been weird for you living with that.

WOW! That would be quite an adjustment! But the converse would be worse... (almost no day light).

I think I'm about as far north as I could handle right now. We're about at the same latitude as Vancouver, BC.

Don't know if I could deal with that. Even in winter here I get a little depressed 'cause it's still dark at 06H30 in the morn, and the sun sets at about 17H45...

BTW - love the new pic of you at the head of the blog!

When I visited my sister in Haines (SE Alaska, near Skagway), I was eager to see unsullied night skies. That didn't happen. It was in late May, and the sky never got truly dark. The daytime scenery of mountains and glaciers and eagles at every turn more than made up for it, though.

Despite 24 hours of daylight, I would still need my sleep. Maybe for the experience, I'd sleep in the afternoon and get up in the "middle of the night." I imagine Alaska must have the highest number of people who buy room-darkening shades/blinds.

So can you see Russia? Or Sarah Palin?
