Saucy Pirate Wenches

Another of the many interesting readings on the reader board at Pirate's Cove along Sandy Boulevard in Northeast Portland. It's in our former neighborhood but we still pass by frequently. Last Christmas? "No Fruitcakes, Please." I wasn't sure if I should go in or not.

Saucy...great adjective.

The sign reminded me of a friend in college (now deceased) who used to refer to the females who worked in our dining hall replenishing the condiments as "pickle wenches". He would snap his fingers and hold up the empty bowl and call to them "Oh, Pickle Wench!" They were not amused.

"Saucy" makes them sound like something Julia Childs might throw together in the kitchen.

You are pretty saucy yourself.
Portland has some nutty signs around town, huh?

There's a nude beach near where I grew up on the coast of California called Pirates Cove. Had my share of good times there- nuff said ;0)
